MOGO KOREAN FUSION TACOS

MOGO KOREAN FUSION TACOS

Last call, 1:30 a.m. stumbling out of the bars in Asbury Park.

When my friends and I reminisce on nights out to the shore, it can be difficult to put the pieces together. We discovered that we frequently followed the same pattern. An Uber would drop us off at the bar and we would drink until the bell would ring, signaling last call. With an empty stomach and a need to sober up, we took to the streets in search of Korean tacos.

As we wandered through town, my bloodshot eyes soon caught sight of the blinding blue fluorescent lights spelling out “MOGO.” Finally, our journey has come to an end, or so we thought. Being the only restaurant open at 2 a.m. and in walking distance to several different bars can attract some trouble. The line poured out the door, wrapping around the corner. For those who are too unfortunate to never taste these tacos, this line is worth waiting in. After 20 minutes of drunken conversations and public humiliation we eventually entered the building. Then it was another 10 minutes until the moment of truth, we have reached the front counter. It took only a few moments to devour our tacos, but damn was it cathartic.

MOGO, which means EAT in Korean, serves a fusion of flavors in order to expand the pallets of Jersey locals. Besides tacos there are burritos and bowls on the menu. All varieties of meat are available including fish and tofu. My personal favorites are the light and crispy Korean Doughnuts. Despite its heightened popularity after the bars close, people can experience their cuisine Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. MOGO is located at 632 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park.
