Ocean County College softball was mercied in two games and hitless in one on Tuesday’s double header against Brookdale Community College.
The Vikings went hitless in game one while the Jersey Blues reached home eight times. Per NCAA rules, a mercy is called if the difference is eight or more runs after 5 innings. Not a single run was an earned run.
Freshman Bailey Adams had the start for game one with a final line of five innings, nine hits, eight runs, 0 earned runs, four walks and a home run. The Jersey Blues’ domination continued into game two when the Vikings fell 15-0, including an eight-run third inning. The errors continued with a total of five from the Vikings, including two from sophomore center fielder Danica Miles.
The Vikings offense managed to make some noise with three hits, one from freshman third baseman Savannah Gross and two from freshman shortstop Angela Matthews. Freshman Marian Moore had the start in the circle, with 15 hits, 15 runs, an earned run, six walks and a strikeout.
The Vikings extend their losing streak to five games and a record of 1-5. They will try to break that streak on Friday, March 27 against Northampton Community College at home. Game one starts at 4 p.m.
