New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has torn his ACL, coach Brian Daboll said.
In what was an offseason of hope for Giants fans after winning a playoff game in January, it has been a total trainwreck since the first drive of the season. Unfortunately for the Giants, this season just continues to get worse.
In the team’s game against the Dolphins just over a month ago, Jones suffered a neck injury that sidelined him for the next three games. Jones made his return this past Sunday against the Raiders, and it didn’t last long.
On the first snap of the second quarter, Jones dropped back to pass and fell down after just a couple steps. Jones was seen holding his right knee as he got up and made his way to the medical tent on the sideline. He was ruled out shortly after, and the team feared the worst.
Those fears became true. Around 11:35 on Monday morning, it was reported that Jones did indeed suffer a torn ACL and his season is now over. His stats are 108/160 for 909 yards with two touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran the ball 40 times for 206 yards and a score.
Jones was signed to a four-year, $160 million extension in the offseason. This deal made him a top 10 paid quarterback, which received a lot of backlash. The Giants have an option to void the contract after the 2024 season and would have to eat $22.2 million in dead money if they decided to do so.
The Giants are currently 2-7 after their most recent blowout loss to the Raiders and the Cowboys are next up on the schedule. Without their starting quarterback, this is a lost season for the G-Men.
