Staff Report

The public is invited to join the Italian Cultural Society of LBI for international conductor, composer and educator Maestro Robert Butts’s examination of operatic architects of the Romantic Era, 6 PM Wednesday, May 10, at the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch.

During the Society’s monthly “Secondo Mercoledi (Wednesday)” meeting, Maestro Butts will compare the creative contributions of four major composers of the Romantic Era (1800–1920): Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, and Giacomo Puccini.

Among the operas under discussion will be Il Barbieri di Siviglia, L’elisir d’amore, Rigoletto, La Traviata, La Boheme, and Tosca.

The award-winning Maestro has created works for orchestras, chamber groups, ensembles and theater. He has conducted opera companies throughout New Jersey, Europe, and Russia, and stands alone for conducting three complete operas each by Wagner and Handel in the Garden State.
