OCC’s Helping Hands Food Pantry is hosting its third annual Clubs for a Cause event.
“The goal of the event is to educate the students of OCC on the issue of food insecurity, fundraise for a local cause, and bring the community together,” Helping Hands Coordinator Rachel Hess said.
The event will occur across the OCC campus mall on April 23, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s theme is a Renaissance Faire.
There will be a donation bin set up for students to donate food as well as a Helping Hands mystery bag and each will include a gift card. A dunk tank will also be at the event, where you will have the ability to dunk one of the professors.
“There will be plenty of places for students to donate food,” Hess said.
Multiple clubs will be taking part in the event, hosting their stations and activities. “We are going to be having different realms throughout the whole event, so there will be a fundraising section, arts section, and sports section, with some others,” Hess said.
All the proceeds that are raised will help benefit Helping Hands as well as destigmatize food insecurity, especially for college students.
“I want students to visit Helping Hands. I hope students will be able to connect with Rachel or one of the volunteers and recognize that this is a great resource that is available, and it is a great hangout place. Students are so stressed, and we are here, it’s free. Students should take advantage of this place,” OCC Professor Brierley said.
