Far-right Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene encourages parents to hold “measles
parties” for children during Texas measles outbreak.
On March 7, 2025, Representative Greene replied to a tweet with a video comparing how
measles used to be handled much more leisurely, and how it is now taken more seriously. Greene
suggested a return to these parties that were popular before the measles vaccine was created to
develop immunity to the disease in children.

According to Global News Canada, Ron Cook, Chief health officer at Texas Tech University,
warned against measles parties saying, “It’s not good to go have measles parties… let me
discourage you from doing this,” he said. “We can’t predict who is going to do poorly with
measles, be hospitalized and potentially get pneumonia or encephalitis and or pass away from
this.”
Promoting these measles parties is extremely dangerous to unvaccinated children, as well as
other vulnerable populations and undoes years of eradicating the disease. There have already been
two reported deaths from the measles outbreak, with the most recent coming from an
unvaccinated New Mexico man just a week after a Texas child died from the disease, according
to NBC News.
