February 4, 2020
Marshall Matters, aka Eminem, released a surprised album titled “Music to be Murdered by” on Jan. 17.
The album contains 20 tracks. The Detroit native enlists guest appearances from Royce da 5’9”, Young M.A., Ed Sheeran, Anderson .Paak, Black Thought, Q-tip, and the late Juice Wrld, who lost his life in December after suffering a fatal seizure. Members from Eminem’s affiliate “Slaughterhouse”, Joel Ortiz and Kxng Crooked, are featured on the project as well.
In support to his Album release, Eminem revealed an official video to the track “Darkness.” The video depicts the events of the Las Vegas mass shooting on October 1, 2017, where a gunman opened fire from his hotel suite and killed 58 people.
Eminem received backlash for parts of the lyrics on the song “Unaccommodating,” where he raps “But I’m contemplating yelling ‘Bombs away’ on the game like I’m outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting,” referencing the suicide bombing during Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester in 2017.
The album’s title and cover art share inspiration from 1958’s “Alfred Hitchcock Presents Music to be Murdered by” released by Jeff Alexander. “Inspired by the master, Uncle Alfred!,” the rapper wrote on his Instagram page.
“Music to be Murdered by” is Eminem’s 11th studio album.
